Employee Health: Drive-through Testing
University of Kentucky Healthcare set up drive-through testing for its employees. To determine who needed testing, a screening survey was distributed to all employees. The returned surveys were evaluated by nurses freed up due (largely) to a reduction in elective surgeries. If an employee/patient’s survey indicated testing should be performed, the nurse called the patient to set up a drive-through appointment. Because they were scheduled and expected, UK Healthcare was able to have labs pre-ordered, test kits ready and packaged (including a specimen label) so the patient could merely drive through the tent to be swabbed. To manage schedules, the drive-through program accepted employees/patients in the morning, allowing the nursing staff to focus on other work in the afternoons.
